Chris Gielnik, CEO & President

Having held senior positions throughout Europe with Nokia Internet Communications, Qualys, Netscaler and Computacenter, Chris brings more than 20 years of business development, security, and technology experience to the NuAgri team. During his time at Nokia, Chris increased annual sales from $2 million to over $20 million within his first two years. Chris specializes in using his people skills to network and develop business and investment opportunities.

Phil Patton, CFO

Phil is a Chartered Accountant (SA), Certified in Production and Inventory Management APICS (CPIM) and CPF Professional Forecaster – Institute of Business Forecasting and Planning. He has specialized in designing and implementing software systems for such operations as integrated financials, inventory, and manufacturing processes. He was Chief Information Officer of a large privately held Canadian group of companies where he implemented financial and ERP systems across more than 80 locations. He has held various senior positions with companies in both North America and South Africa.

John Dalton, COO

John qualifed as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. He has worked and consulted in real estate development, information technology, leisure and entertainment, hospitality, professional services, manufacturing and distribution. In South Africa, John was part of senior management who acquired and developed a 250 ha mixed use development called Century City including entertainment, residential, 125,000m2 of retail and office components. In Canada he led a team who bought, renovated and sold $55m in condos p.a. to investors through a variety of investment vehicles. He has developed information technology systems and applications in unique environments that have enabled organizations to differentiate themselves from their competitors and therefore to be positioned for the future. He has also developed his project management skills to both manage the project and project and communicate effectively with the stakeholders during a project.

Dr. Laila Benkrima, Chief Horticulturist

Dr. Laila Benkrima has a Ph.D. in Plant Biology and MSc in Plant Physiology from the University of Paris (France). She has 25 years experience in research and development within the horticulture and plant biotechnology industries. Dr. Laila Benkrima has considerable experience as a senior SR&ED consultant. Her customers include British Columbia and Alberta’s largest nurseries. She has been responsible for the planning, development and creative problem solving of various projects from plant micro-propagation and functional / medicinal crop cultivation to hydroponics and laboratory design. Alex Turkewitsch, Greenhouse Specialist

Alex is a professional engineer specializing in greenhouse facilities. He has spent his entire career designing greenhouses and greenhouse systems. After 20 years working in the greenhouse manufacturing sector, Alex founded his company in 1999. Alex offers greenhouse engineering services to greenhouse owners and operators, architects, greenhouse manufacturers and institutional clients across the world.

Mike Gardiner, Control Systems Manager

Mike is a Professional Engineer with an MSc in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University. Over the last thirty years Mike’s diverse career has spanned from engineering to maintenance and operations management in a variety of municipal, commercial and industrial environments, including shipping, manufacturing and food and beverage operations. Mike has developed tools to enable simple and effective control of equipment and processes, based on continual monitoring of equipment performance. This approach has resulted in substantial performance improvements and utility savings in numerous commercial and industrial facilities.

Sander Hogewoning, Lighting Specialist

Sander is and independent researcher and Found of Plant Lighting. He initiates innovative research projects to increase the efficiency of protected crop production. Sander has an MSc in Plant Physiology and a PhD on plant responses (especially photosynthesis) to the spectral composition of light form Wageningen University. Subsequently he worked as a postdoc on the manipulation of horticultural crops with light quality and the development of growth facilities equipped with artificial solar light. Sander is an expert in lighting applications for crop production, research and phenotyping.
